Aparan
Aparan is the centre of Aragatsotn, but for most people it's just somewhere on the road — a place you pass through on the way from Yerevan to Gyumri or heading up to Aragats. That's a mistake. People who book a social package in Aparan find that stopping here is worth it — not for half an hour, but for several days.
It's about an hour and a half from Yerevan. Not too far, not too close — just enough that when you arrive, you actually feel like you've left. The road runs along the base of Aragats — open land in every direction, the mountain sitting on the horizon.
Social package deals in Aparan cover accommodation and meals. Guesthouses are mostly small and family-run. Home-cooked food, clean air, a yard — no significant infrastructure in Aparan, but there's a kind of honesty that's hard to find in polished hotels.
The Aparan reservoir is right there — for fishing, a boat, or simply sitting and looking. Water and mountains together in one place — that's Aparan's natural backdrop, not a designed tourist attraction.
The surrounding area gives you more. Teghut, Saghmosavank — both close, both distinctive. For anyone who likes being active, Aragats is right there with hiking routes at various levels of difficulty.
In summer Aparan is noticeably cooler than Yerevan — you're at the foot of a mountain, and it shows. In autumn — open fields, a distant horizon, stillness. In winter the snow comes, Aragats turns white, and Aparan looks like a completely different place.
When booking a social package in Aparan, ask about options near the reservoir — waking up by the water here is one of the most peaceful experiences the town offers.
